Strategies and risk settings
What the risk settings on a bot mean, and how the bot protects your balance.
Risk settings
- Risk per trade — how much of the balance a single trade may lose if its stop-loss is hit (e.g. 0.5 %). The position size is calculated from it.
- Max open positions — how many trades can be open at the same time.
- Daily loss limit — after this loss in one day the bot stops opening new trades until the next day.
- Max drawdown — if the balance falls this far from its peak, the bot halts and waits for you.
- Leverage (futures) — keep it low. Higher leverage makes losses bigger, not smaller.
Protection that is always on
- Every trade has a stop-loss from the moment it opens.
- Old or broken price data blocks new trades.
- A kill switch can stop one bot, all your bots, or the whole platform at once.
Tip: Start with the suggested settings. Change one thing at a time and compare in paper mode.
How we test strategies
Each strategy card shows what our own tests found: “Passed our tests”, “Mixed results” or “Lost money in our tests”.
We test on 8 coins from 2019 to 2026. Settings are chosen on one year of data and then checked on the next 90 days the strategy has never seen, again and again. Exchange fees and slippage are included. The rule for passing is written down before the test runs.
In these tests Breakout and Trend following did better on 4-hour candles than on 1-hour candles: fewer trades, lower fees, smaller drops. The wizard therefore suggests 4h for them. Their results were weaker in 2025–2026.
Important: A passed test is not a promise. Past prices do not repeat, and every strategy can lose money.
Why there are no Grid or DCA bots
We tested both on the same 8 coins. Neither passed.
Grid bots earned small amounts in sideways markets, but when prices fell they kept buying and held big losses: the deepest drop was 82% of the balance.
DCA bots (buy more as the price falls, sell on a small rebound) won often but lost almost everything in long falls — up to 98% on one coin — and lost money overall on 5 of the 8 coins.
We won't offer a bot type that failed our tests.
